Swedish crime fiction and the “Millenium Effect”

The recent surge of interest in Swedish crime fiction is no doubt rooted in phenomenal success of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy. At a recent government sponsored event in Stockholm focussing on the “The Storytellers of Sweden”, international best-selling crime writer Camilla Läckberg commented, “We have a very long and good tradition of crime writing in Sweden, starting with Sjöwall & Wahlöö and the Martin Beck stories. They set a very high standard, and it made a lot of people want to write crime stories.”
